WHAT DOES THE COUNTY JUDGE DO?

 

The Crittenden County Judge is the chief executive officer for the county government. The judge:

​

  • Authorizes and approves the disbursement of all appropriated county funds

  • Operates the system of county roads

  • Administers ordinances enacted by the quorum court

  • Has custody of county property

  • Accepts grants from federal, state, public, and private sources

  • Hires county employees except those employed by other elected officials of the county

  • Presides over the quorum court without a vote, but with the power of veto

  • Responsible for creating an annual budget for quorum court approval

  • Negotiates quotes annually for employee healthcare

  • Oversee's Office of Emergency Management

  • Only person who can authorize payment for claims

  • The office of Veteran's Affairs falls within the office of the County Judge

  • In the event of a county emergency, the County Judge can declare a State of Emergency

  • The County Judge issues burn bans throughout the county when necessary

  • Regular office hours are 8am to 4:30pm Monday thru Friday
